That’s How I want to Start 2012

Last week went a little rough after I attempted a 10 mile tempo out here in Langley. The Solo attempt, in not ideal conditions, was hard and sucked and wasn’t anywhere I wanted to be pace wise so I decided that since I hadn’t had a single day off in 7 weeks it was time for one, but 1 day off turned into 3 and if I continued to slide things would get ridiculous. I started back up slowly and even hit a couple workouts just in time to feel good about heading over to Victoria for the Pioneer 8km.

The race went well and I ran about where I figured I would at this point in the season, that is if you consider we ran about 20 seconds further than we were supposed to. I thought 24:20-30 would be doable and counting the added distance that was right where I ended up. This result was just what I needed to cut up the training I have been doing and motivate me for the next section of training.

Monday I met up with the guys from Trinity Western for a workout, I was either just going to run and easy 10 miles and workout on my own Tuesday but I didn’t feel any soreness or fatigue from Sunday’s race so I decided to jump into the Monday workout. We ran 6x 800 meters off 2 minutes jog and it went way better than I anticipated, I hit an expected 2:22 for the first and 2:20 for the next, but then we dropped a 2:17 with the same effort than the other two. 2:13/2:14 and 2:12 for the next took a bit more effort but for me right now these where good intervals. We had a hell of a headwind heading through the final 100 of each lap so with that I am happy with the overall workout.

Next up for me is two solid weeks of training, a transition into some longer more marathon type workouts and then the 8km in Steveston.
